Alberta's Chain Plates

This photo clearly shows the reason for fitting channels.

I had Alberta's chain plates re-forged to increase the offset away from the hull. This allowed the chain to clear the rail. As seen from the chunks out of the rail, the previous off-set was not sufficient.

The steel rubbing strip on the channel takes the knocks coming alongside.

The top hole in the chain plate is 11/4" / 31mm dia. and allows the head of a big shackle to pass through. This is important. Too often the hole is sized for the pin of the shackle and the head will not pass through the chain or the chain plate and a smaller shackle than desired is used - nearly always the weak link in the shroud.
