Smack in Church
This is a group of detail pictures of channels, deadeyes and chain plates. Stretch in the deadeye lanyards can be reduced by using modern pre-stretched polyester rope, often 12mm dia. Each of the six lanyards on Alberta uses 6m / 20' of rope.
Bottlescrews would cut down stretch considerably but deadeyes and lanyards are traditional, cheaper, more flexible and, some say, the extra stretch absorbs shock loads and is kinder to an old wooden hull.
