Saxonia's Chain Plates

Saxonia LO 32 is a 35' 1932 Aldous bawley maintained in very original condition, including her chain plates.
As bawleys are beamier than smacks the shroud angles tend to be more acute which in turn means that the channels have to be wider and the chain plates off-set further outboard so that the shrouds clear the bulwark rail.
Aldous' approach to this problem is seen here on Saxonia and judging by her date, this solution is as the result of refinement over decades. She has no channels.
The wrought iron chain plate is carried up the side of the bulwark strakes till clear of the rail and terminated with a forged, machined eye. Bolts fasten through to a substantial stanchion inboard.
The strap round the deadeye is elegantly made with a half-round section on the circular part blending into a flat section for the jaws. A 3/4" bolt joins the two items - a reassuring choice of size.
